South Africa fuel price API

Official petrol (93 and 95) pump prices and diesel (50ppm and 500ppm) wholesale list prices, inland and coastal, following the monthly Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources adjustment. Every response carries the official source and its effective date.

The companion fuel-levies series breaks out the general fuel levy, Road Accident Fund levy and carbon fuel levy per litre, including temporary relief episodes.

How agents pay

No account, no API key. Paid endpoints reply HTTP 402 with exact payment requirements; an x402 client pays USDC on Base (about two seconds to settle) and retries automatically. Invalid input is rejected free with a 400 before any payment is challenged. See the x402 quickstart.

Questions

How often do South African fuel prices change?
On the first Wednesday of each month, when the DMPR adjustment takes effect. zaref updates on publication and the response self-declares stale if an expected update is ever missed.
Does the API distinguish inland and coastal prices?
Yes. Every fuel grade carries both inland_gauteng and coastal values, since the zone differential is significant.
Are diesel prices pump or wholesale?
Diesel values are the official wholesale list price. Diesel pump prices are unregulated and vary by retailer, and the response says so rather than guessing.
